Join us in Bali from 21-27 June 2027 for an immersive training, which will give you the skills and confidence to teach transformative yin yoga classes.
Yin is slow medicine. It asks us to pause, to soften and to feel, and in that spaciousness something remarkable happens. We begin to notice the glimmers, the small and beautiful moments of life that so often pass us by. We come home to sensation, to breath, to the quiet intelligence of the body, and to the deepest part of who we are.
Yin Level 2 is an invitation to go further into this space. Over six nights and seven days in Bali, we weave yin, somatics, meditation, pranayama and yoga philosophy into one living, breathing practice. You'll embody these teachings first, so that when you share them, you share them from lived experience, with clarity, confidence and heart.
This training is underpinned by yogic philosophy that has guided seekers for thousands of years. We explore the kleshas, the five obstructions of the mind that sit at the root of our suffering, alongside the koshas, the five elements, and the gods and goddesses as archetypes, brought to life through story and myth. Together they reveal how we cling, how we resist, how we forget who we really are. And then, gently, how we remember.
Alongside this ancient wisdom sits a Western evidence base, drawing on the latest research in fascia, contemporary teaching methodologies and advanced cueing.
You don't need to have completed our Yin Level 1, or any Yoga Teacher Training, to join us.
What You'll Explore
Yin and the Living Web of Fascia
Our understanding of fascia is changing faster than almost any other area of the body sciences. Once thought of as simple packing material, connective tissue is now understood as a vast, responsive network, much like the mycelium beneath a forest floor, linking every part of us in constant communication. This is a growth area of knowledge, and what was taught about fascia even a year ago is already being revised. We're committed to teaching from the leading edge of this research, so you leave with a more sophisticated and subtle understanding of what is really happening in the body during a yin practice.
Current understanding of fascia and connective tissue
A broader, more inclusive palette of yin shapes, so every body can find its way in
Advanced yin teaching: cueing, sequencing and theming that feel seamless, intuitive and deeply felt
Somatics: The Living Body
Soma is the body as it is lived from the inside, a living, breathing, feeling entity rather than an object to be fixed or perfected. Somatics is the practice of listening to that body through sensation and movement, and it is threaded through every part of this training.
Yin is often taught as a series of static holds. Our observation is that the body needs to move before it can be still, and the same is true of the mind. So we infuse our yin with subtle, intuitive movement, allowing the body to unwind, release old patterns and find its own way into stillness. Somatic movement woven into the stillness of yin
Nervous system regulation, for yourself first, so you can hold space for others and create the conditions for co regulation
Trauma informed principles: consideration, safety, trustworthiness, choice and collaboration
Philosophy, Myth and Archetype
From the yogic tradition, we infuse the gods and goddesses as elemental archetypes, helping to uncover deeper teachings. The elements move through our bodies and moods, and the timeless questions of the yogis become our questions too. Who am I beneath the labels? What am I holding onto? We’ll explore the illusion of separation and remember the power of connection, to ourselves, to each other through: We saw how the ancient teachings on the kleshas speak so directly to modern life, to
The kleshas: ignorance of our true nature, the grip of ego, attachment (even to yoga!), aversion and fear
Five elements theory from the yoga tradition
The five koshas, uncovering our multidimensional selves
Ancient yogic teachings applied to modern struggles with anxiety, burnout, perfectionism and the search for meaning.
Dhyana: Meditation
Vedic meditation rooted in traditional lineage
Dharana and mind centring techniques to cultivate one-pointed focus
Contemporary approaches to presence and inner stillness
Contemplative self-enquiry practices
Mindfulness, exploring our vast inner landscape with courage and compassion
Pranayama: Breathwork

The anatomy and physiology of breath, and its impact on mind, body and emotions
Practices for cultivating calm and clarity
Techniques for nervous system regulation
Building resilience and energetic capacity
Sadhana: Your Personal Practice
Your own sadhana is at the heart of everything. It is what allows you to hold space and become the teacher you long to be. We'll explore what a living, personal practice can look like for you, one that nourishes your teaching, keeps you inspired, and anchors you so you can support others.
Teaching Skills and Facilitation
Great teaching is often invisible. It lives in the subtle art of reading the room, observing what is happening for each of your students, both physically and energetically, and responding in the moment. Sometimes that means offering a modification or shifting the practice itself. Sometimes it is simply the words you choose, so that each student feels spoken to directly without ever being singled out. This is a skill that ensures students feels seen and cared for.
Sequencing classes that weave yin, somatics, breath, meditation and philosophy together seamlessly
Facilitation: creating the conditions for powerful, potent experiences in retreat and workshop settings
Daily teaching practicum with practical and useful feedback to improve and hone your skills, whether you are teaching or not.
In the Stillness
Yin has a beautifully feminine quality. It is receptive rather than striving, spacious rather than busy, and this is the space we hold for you. In the long, quiet holds, our patterns rise to the surface: the urge to fix, to resist, to escape. Rather than pushing them away, we learn to meet them with curiosity and tenderness, and in time, to guide our students to do the same.
Held in this stillness, we loosen our grip on who we think we should be, and step back into life as a more wholehearted version of ourselves.
Why We Created This Training
This training was born from your questions. Our students requested a training with more depth and nuance. Here it is. Experience the subtle dimensions of yoga that so many trainings only touch on.
So we brought these threads together: traditional lineage and contemporary understanding, the poetry of myth and the wisdom of the body. We feel deeply honoured to be trusted with bringing these teachings forward in a way that is accessible, joyful and inspiring. We love this work.
Why Bali
We chose Bali because the island itself becomes part of the teaching. Here, devotion is woven into everyday life, with offerings placed at every doorway and temple ceremonies flowing through the villages. The lush green landscape, the warmth, the slower rhythm of island life, all of it invites you to settle and arrive.
Stepping away from the demands of home gives you something rare: the room to truly drop in. Without the pull of work, family and screens, the practices land more deeply, and the transformation stays with you long after you leave.
The Immersion
You'll find cheaper trainings. What we offer is two dedicated and experienced facilitators, with the depth that comes from decades of practice and a genuine commitment to our own continuing evolution. We are lifelong students of yoga, and everything we keep learning, we bring into the room to share.
Everything is taken care of accommodation, meals, tuitions and some extras are all taken care of, so you can simply be here now. No tapping in and out. You're in the process, 100%.
Expect a joyful week of connection, laughter, stillness and nature.

The Lisas
Lisa Matthews and Lisa Allwell, lovingly known as the Lisas, have spent decades in the practice and teaching of yoga, and between them have guided hundreds of students through trainings, retreats and workshops in Australia and around the world.
Together, the Lisas know how to hold a safe and sacred space. A potent container where you can be vulnerable, brave, funny, outrageous or deeply inward, met exactly as you are and welcomed as part of the whole. Hands on, present and devoted, we keep our groups intimate, so we really get to know you, and we often keep supporting our students for years after their training ends.

Here’s what previous students had to say about our Yin I Program:
“ I thank you from the bottom of my heart for the beautiful Yin Yoga Teacher Training I experienced with you and the group in Bali. It was truly transformative, and I am deeply grateful for the guidance and wisdom you both shared with us.” Rebecca Kunz, Yoga Teacher
“The Evolve Yin Training was a transformative journey for me opening up a greater understanding of yin yoga, yoga philosophy, anatomy, meridians, meditation, somatic movement, and associated theory and practices. As a mental health practitioner who loves yoga, I was particularly drawn to this course to learn advanced breath and meditation practices to support my clients. The course exceeded my expectations as Lisa A and Lisa M brought an exceptional standard of teaching stemming from their wealth of experience and very nurturing approach. They have fostered the perfect environment for connection and community with amazing fellow students. Not only have I had an incredible time of personal growth and professional development, but I have also returned from this experience with a nourished soul and friendships made! The venue was also magical with teachings and yoga practice set amongst the smell, sight, and sounds of a rainforest.” Eleanor Lam, psychologist
“A brilliant and delightful experience, thank you so much.” Dr Tatiana Cantachin, psychiatrist
“Both Lisas are the reason why I signed up for this training as i have always felt lacking in the Yin space. I have been attending yoga classes at Seed and always walked out feeling so refreshed and happy. Their ability to create the inclusive and safe environment in their classes gives me lots of inspiration to keep learning. This training was so valuable, adding so much knowledge base and understanding of Yin and given me a great deal of confidence about teaching Yin rather than just Vinyasa and Hatha.” Priscillia Low, Yoga + Pilates Teacher
“In this training, I was able to experience high quality Yin classes lead by Lisa A and Lisa M , learning the teaching concepts that underpin great Yin classes. Being abroad, away from normal life, allowed me to fully dive into the training. In the breaks between lectures, I had time to contemplate the subtle body elements we were learning, which really helped the concepts land. I left with the knowledge to both teach Yin to my community, and enhance my Yang classes” Julia Gray, Yoga Teacher + Studio Owner
“The Lisa’s worked seamlessly as a team. They really held the space well and opened from their hearts consistently. The course was an harmonious melding of their well grounded intellectual and experimental knowledge. I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to have learnt from them.“ Rebecca McMenamin, Yoga Teacher
“ I LOVED LOVED LOVED the training course and being able to share the experience with such a wonderful group of people. We have come away from the training course feeling very inspired, refreshed, calm, and feeling better able to face our forthcoming challenges in life. We also hope to be able to apply what we have learned from you in supporting our loved ones and others in need. Both yoga teachers Lisa M and Lisa A were well experienced and their knowledge about Yin yoga was enormous. Thank you so much for sharing your yoga journey!” Yasu Yashoda, Chef and dedocated yogi

Who is this training for?
It’s mostly for yoga teachers who want to learn how to teach soulful yin classes. You do not need to be a yoga teacher to attend this training, but you must have experience with yin yoga and a sincere desire to immerse yourself in all things yin. So if you are a dedicated student or working in healthcare and helping industries where understanding practices to reduce stress and anxiety can be a game-changer, talk to us about whether this training will be suitable for you.For previous trainings, around 60% of the students were yoga teachers, the rest were in helping professions or were dedicated yoga students.
Will I be qualified to teach yin yoga after this training?
If you haven’t yet (or don’t plan to) do a full 200+ hour yoga teacher training, you can still complete this course. However, you are not qualified to teach yoga unless you have completed a minimum 200 hour recognised yoga teacher training qualification. This training will qualify you as an associate student with Yoga Alliance, which will augment any future 200+ hour yoga trainings you undertake. It will compliment any modality you are already qualified to teach, such as pilates, psychology, body work and medicine, as examples. The skills you learn will support any work with stressed adults and children.
Who certifies this training?
Yoga Alliance, the International Governing Body of Yoga have certified this training. What is Yin Yoga?
Yin Yoga is a complimentary yoga practice to the more dynamic and active yoga styles that have dominated the rise in popularity of yoga in western culture. In a sense, the movement towards yin yoga may be indicative of a desire to bring a more harmonious and holistic balance between the masculine the feminine, the yin and yang, active and passive.
We have seen a huge rise in the popularity of this slow grounded style of yoga. It seems that the faster we move as a society, the more we need to actively cultivate practices that slow us down and tune back us in to the wisdom of the body and the whisperings of the heart.
Yin yoga, especially when combined with mindfulness, calming and slow integrated somatic movement is a subtly powerful modality for resetting frazzled nervous systems, helping improve the quality of our sleep, regulate hormonal imbalances and bring us home to ourselves, to a sense of inner peace.
We know from the work of Bessel Van der Kolk that indeed the body does keep the score. Trauma, grief and old sadness are held in the tissues of the body and the practices that we will teach you allow for sweet release and surrender of what no longer serves us.
Why not online?
While online trainings certainly have their place, this training is unapologetically face-to-face because we want to share these teachings in the way that yoga has always been taught, with direct transmission and experiential learning from teacher to student.
What are the Course Requirement?
If you want to receive the 50 Hour certification, you must participate in the full training. This will include pre-course content before you leave for Bali and training assessment submission.
What are my passport requirements?
Your passport must have a minimum of six months validity to enter Indonesia. What is the venue like?
Nestled in plush tropical gardens and surrounded by lovely rice fields, Naya is a beautiful retreat and boutique homestay comprised of two adjacent properties; Naya and Naya's Rainbow. Only a 7 minute drive from the centre of Ubud, guests have quick access to Bali’s renowned cultural hub but will feel far enough from the crowds and traffic to enjoy the magic and essence of rural Bali.A beautiful property designed to embrace you into the beauty, bounty and bliss of Bali, Naya's main purpose is to become a home for others to gather and to reconnect with their potentials, wisdom and gifts. Will there be time to explore?
The training program will be full (and fabulous!). There will be breaks for meals, including a two hour mid-morning break. You will have evenings free. Because you will want to use the space in the program for reflection, there isn’t time for sightseeing. However the culture in Bali is gorgeous and and fascinating and you will want to explore, especially if you haven’t been before. If that’s you we suggest arriving early or staying on for a few days after the training is complete. What about the food?
Your retreat menu has been specifically created to have a balance of wholesome and healthy food combinations for increasing your energy and vitality. Meals are vegetarian, plentiful and delicious. The seasonal meals are prepared in-house by chefs. All meals are included in your stay.Food allergies and sensitivities?
The retreat venue caters to most special dietary requirements. Please let us know when booking if you have particular dietary needs.
We are senior teachers, collaborators and dear friends. We create and facilitate retreats, teacher trainings, workshops and mentoring programs. Our students are drawn to our creative and inspiring teaching styles.
We created this training because over the years and after countless requests , our students - who are often yoga teachers - asked us to do so. We offer this training in deep service and humility in the hope that it inspires the next wave of well educated, heartfelt and transformative yin yoga teachers.
As seasoned and compassionate facilitators, we bring a wealth of experience and a nurturing approach to this training. We walk our talk. We also believe that the best transmission of knowledge happens face to face, and while we acknowledge that online learning has a place, it’s the incidental conversations, real world connections and the opportunity to observe and practice up close that creates potent learning.
Lisa Allwell
Lisa is a health professional who unexpectedly fell in love with yoga. She held senior public health roles in mental health, cancer, stroke and chronic illness, but traded up a focus on evidence, research and evaluation to teach yoga. Now, she encourages her students to run the yoga experiment in their own body and mind, with a sample size of one, and richly reap the rewards of their own personal research program.
Lisa established her studio, Seed Yoga + Wellness in 2017. She has created a flourishing yoga community in Blackburn. Far too many of her students to count, have gone on to study and teach yoga. This led to her mentoring emerging yoga teachers one-on-one, giving them the confidence to teach and to establish their own yoga related businesses.
Lisa has completed over 1000 hours of yoga training in a variety of yoga traditions and lineages, including Vitality Yoga, Yoga Pranala, Sattva Yoga Academy and Embodied Flow. She considers herself to be a lifelong student of yoga who continues to participate in trainings; there’s so much to be curious about in this incredible tradition of yoga!
Lisa is a former Board member of Yoga Australia (the national peak body for yoga) and has twice been nominated the Australian Ambassador to the International Yoga Festival in Rishikesh, India. She is a former Board member of Health Issues Centre at La Trobe University. She is a Level 3 Senior Yoga Teacher with Yoga Australia. She holds graduate and post degrees, in health science, public health, arts and education.
Lisa also knows a bit about Bali: She has led 8 previous Bali Retreats. When you join her in Bali, she’ll tell you about how in Bali the yoga is often hidden in plain sight. You will see first-hand how their devotion, prayer and ceremony permeate all aspects of your stay. It is impossible not to be touched by the colourful daily rituals, offerings and ordinary magic. Lisa will infuse the retreat teachings with cultural elements to help you to understand why so many people are drawn to profound and deep spiritual connection to this magical place. (She studied with a Balinese Healer, Tjokorda Rai in 2012).
