Somatics for accessing your joy, wonder & finding awe in daily life

Have you ever experienced those moments where you look up at the sky & see a rainbow and a smile appears unbidden on your face. Or you’re with your best friend, and you start laughing about something, and that laughter becomes so contagious that you’re almost egging each other on, belly aching, cheeks sore. If you take a moment to notice, you might feel an expansion in your chest, you might feel lighter, you might feel more connected to the present moment.

Joy can sometimes feel like something you have or don’t have. Joy is in fact a physiological experience that can occur when our nervous system has enough capacity, cues of safety, and flexibility.

Many of us have spent years strengthening our survival responses. We have become skilled at being productive, anticipating problems, managing responsibilities and looking after others. These are not flaws, but adaptive strategies that help us navigate through life. However, when the majority of our energy is spent protecting ourselves, we may have fewer opportunities to experience other emotions such as joy, playfulness, curiosity and wonder.

This workshop has been created with this in mind. The brain thinks & the nervous system feels. We can’t think our way into these states, we have to feel our way.

Through playful exploration and a healthy dose of curiosity, we will be inviting somatic (body) awareness to feel more aliveness in our body.

We will also be exploring how we can notice joy and wonder in our day-to-day life.

What you’ll explore

• Reconnecting with your body’s cues and learning to notice what feels good, safe and alive

• The power of a pause and how creating space can change the way we experience a moment

• Embodied practices that invite curiosity, playfulness and a greater sense of aliveness

• Simple ways to recognise and receive the small moments of joy, wonder and awe already happening around you

• Reflective practices to help you take these experiences beyond the workshop and into everyday life

Expect to leave the workshop feeling lighter, a capacity for a fuller breath, increased curiosity and a sense of being more present.

Sometimes joy arrives loudly, sometimes it arrives quietly. Both count.

No experience needed. Just your breath, your body & the willingness to explore.

When: Saturday 21 November from 2.00 - 4.00pm
Where: In studio at Seed Yoga, 1A salisbury Ave, Blackburn

Rachel says: A yoga & meditation practice has always been something that has drifted in and out of my life when I needed it most. However, after spending 10 months travelling in France I reconnected with yoga again and I knew in my heart of hearts that this was something I wanted to dive into and explore completely. Movement has always been extremely important to me, having always done some form of sport or another throughout my life. The practice of yoga took things to the next level through the integration of mind, body, diet, breath and spirituality. I am particularly passionate about how the breath influences our entire being - our energy, hormones & mental state. I love the community that yoga creates; while it is an individual path for each person, it is also the thread that connects us all together.

Each time I practice I learn more about myself and it is a great joy to share that with others. I hope to bring my bubbly personality into each class, to challenge students to push themselves either mentally or physically - but also to encourage them to rest, restore & relax fully. I like to support people to move more intuitively or in a way that suits their body. I think now, in what is often a fast paced world, we need that Yin & Yang balance in our lives.

Why I love this work…

  • Your body already knows - we are just learning to listen.

  • We can often operate from a place of habit or from society's expectations of us - somatics & embodiment ‘pulls back the veil’ on those layers so we can reconnect with our truth.

  • When we align with our truth and become more congruent with our needs, we spend less energy ‘going through the motions’. We often find we actually have more capacity for everything else.

  • We discover more vibrancy & joy when we allow our needs and desires to be met & honoured.

  • It’s empowering to speak your truth and know your truth.

  • It’s empowering to live from this place and know yourself better.

  • Whether you’re a parent, a partner, a friend or a caregiver - we can all relate to putting other peoples needs above our own. By being curious and actually asking what we need/want, we can start to direct our whole life authentically. This creates the capacity to truly live this one precious life.

  • We learn to find more compassion for ourselves - because we truly matter.
