FAQs
  • Who is this training for?
It’s mostly for yoga teachers who want to learn how to teach soulful yin classes. You do not need to be a yoga teacher to attend this training, but you must have experience with yin yoga and a sincere desire to immerse yourself in all things yin. So if you are a dedicated student or working in healthcare and helping industries where understanding practices to reduce stress and anxiety can be a game-changer, talk to us about whether this training will be suitable for you.

  • Will I be qualified to teach yin yoga after this training?
If you haven’t yet (or don’t plan to) do a full 200+ hour yoga teacher training, you may still complete this course. However, you are not qualified to teach yoga to adults unless you have completed a minimum 200 hour recognised yoga teacher training qualification.

This training will qualify you as an associate student with Yoga Alliance, which will augment any future 200+ hour yoga trainings you undertake. It will compliment any modality you are already qualified to teach, such as pilates, psychology, body work and medicine, as examples. The skills you learn will support any work with stressed adults and children.

  • Who certifies this training?
Yoga Alliance, the International Governing Body of Yoga have certified this training.

  • What is Yin Yoga?

Yin Yoga is a complimentary yoga practice to the more dynamic and active yoga styles that have dominated the rise in popularity of yoga in western culture. In a sense, the movement towards yin yoga may be indicative of a desire to bring a more harmonious and holistic balance between the masculine the feminine, the yin and yang, active and passive.

We have seen a huge rise in the popularity of this slow grounded style of yoga. It seems that the faster we move as a society, the more we need to actively cultivate practices that slow us down and tune back us in to the wisdom of the body and the whisperings of the heart.

Yin yoga, especially when combined with mindfulness, calming and slow integrated somatic movement is a subtly powerful modality for resetting frazzled nervous systems, helping improve the quality of our sleep, regulate hormonal imbalances and bring us home to ourselves, to a sense of inner peace.

We know from the work of Bessel Van der Kolk that indeed the body does keep the score. Trauma, grief and old sadness are held in the tissues of the body and the practices that we will teach you allow for sweet release and surrender of what no longer serves us.

  • Why do this in Bali?

Why not? But seriously…where better that beautiful Bali to immerse in the lusciousness of nature? This retreat-based training offers you a unique opportunity to embody the essence of yin, which is deeply nurturing and involves stepping away from daily life and all of your roles and responsibilities so that you can deeply absorb the learnings, free from distractions of the external world. Expect an experiential training. While you’ll be well educated in theory, more importantly you’ll learn to embody these practices through a richly experiential memorable training. Expect to evolve and to experience deep self enquiry.

  • Why not online?

While online trainings certainly have their place, this training is unapologetically face-to-face because we want to share these teachings in the way that yoga has always been taught, with direct transmission and experiential learning from teacher to student.

  • What are the Course Requirement?

If you want to receive the 50 Hour certification, you must participate in the full training. This will include pre-reading before you leave for Bali and post training assessment submission.

  • What are my passport requirements?
Your passport must have a minimum of six months validity to enter Indonesia.

  • What is the venue like?
Nestled in plush tropical gardens and surrounded by lovely rice fields, Naya is a beautiful retreat and boutique homestay comprised of two adjacent properties; Naya and Naya's Rainbow. Only a 7 minute drive from the centre of Ubud, guests have quick access to Bali’s renowned cultural hub but will feel far enough from the crowds and traffic to enjoy the magic and essence of rural Bali.

A beautiful property designed to embrace you into the beauty, bounty and bliss of Bali, Naya's main purpose is to become a home for others to gather and to reconnect with their potentials, wisdom and gifts. A place where teachers, healers, musicians and dreamers can realize and share all that they have to offer. A sacred space for deep inner transformations, healing and those cherished AHA moments. Empowering and beautiful retreats, soulful gatherings, homestays, nourishing meals, and stillness. https://www.nayaubud.com/about-naya

  • Will there be time to explore?
The training program will be full (and fabulous!). There will of course be breaks for meals and to consolidate the learnings, but you will not have time for sightseeing. If you want to explore more of Bali, we suggest arriving early or staying on after the training is complete.

  • What about the food?
Your retreat menu has been specifically created to have a balance of wholesome and healthy food combinations for increasing your energy and vitality. Meals are vegetarian, plentiful and delicious. The seasonal meals are prepared in-house by chefs. All meals are included in your stay.

Your Course Facilitators

We are senior teachers, collaborators and dear friends. We create and facilitate retreats, teacher trainings, workshops and mentoring programs. Our students are drawn to our creative and inspiring teaching styles.

We created this training because over the years and after countless requests , our students - who are often yoga teachers - asked us to do so. We offer this training in deep service and humility in the hope that it inspires the next wave of well educated, heartfelt and transformative yin yoga teachers.

As seasoned and compassionate facilitators, we bring a wealth of experience and a nurturing approach to this training. We walk our talk. We also believe that the best transmission of knowledge happens face to face, and while we acknowledge that online learning has a place, it’s the incidental conversations, real world connections and the opportunity to observe and practice up close that creates potent learning.

Lisa Allwell

Lisa is a health professional who unexpectedly fell in love with yoga. She held senior public health roles in mental health, cancer, stroke and chronic illness, but traded up a focus on evidence, research and evaluation to teach yoga. Now, she encourages her students to run the yoga experiment in their own body and mind, with a sample size of one, and richly reap the rewards of their own personal research program.

Lisa established her studio, Seed Yoga + Wellness in 2017. She has created a flourishing yoga community in Blackburn. Far too many of her students to count, have gone on to study and teach yoga. This led to her mentoring emerging yoga teachers one-on-one, giving them the confidence to teach and to establish their own yoga related businesses.

Lisa has completed over 1000 hours of yoga training in a variety of yoga traditions and lineages, including Vitality Yoga, Yoga Pranala, Sattva Yoga Academy and Embodied Flow. She considers herself to be a lifelong student of yoga who continues to participate in trainings; there’s so much to be curious about in this incredible tradition of yoga!

Lisa is a former Board member of Yoga Australia (the national peak body for yoga) and has twice been nominated the Australian Ambassador to the International Yoga Festival in Rishikesh, India. She is a former Board member of Health Issues Centre at La Trobe University. She is a Level 3 Senior Yoga Teacher with Yoga Australia. She holds graduate and post degrees, in health science, public health, arts and education.

Lisa also knows a bit about Bali: She has led 8 previous Bali Retreats. When you join her in Bali, she’ll tell you about how in Bali the yoga is often hidden in plain sight. You will see first-hand how their devotion, prayer and ceremony permeate all aspects of your stay. It is impossible not to be touched by the colourful daily rituals, offerings and ordinary magic. Lisa will infuse the retreat teachings with cultural elements to help you to understand why so many people are drawn to profound and deep spiritual connection to this magical place. (She studied with a Balinese Healer, Tjokorda Rai in 2012).
