Into Still Water: A Winter Yin Ceremony with Jennifer Chen

  • 1A Salisbury Avenue Blackburn, Vic, 3130 Australia (map)

Winter is a season where less becomes a kind of medicine: Nature slows down. The days shorten. Energy turns inward. Yet so many of us continue trying to push, strive and keep pace with a world that rarely stops moving.

This beautiful 2 hour Yin ceremony with Jennifer Chen is an invitation to pause, soften and replenish.

Rooted in the wisdom of Traditional Chinese Medicine, this nourishing winter practice will explore the Water element and the Kidney meridian system, which in Eastern philosophy is considered the body’s deepest reservoir of vitality, resilience and life force energy.

In Chinese Medicine, winter is associated with the kidneys, rest, introspection and conservation of energy. When this system becomes depleted, we can feel exhausted, anxious, ungrounded or emotionally fragile. Through slow and mindful Yin practices, we create the conditions for the nervous system to settle and for the body to begin restoring itself from a deeper place.

Throughout the evening, Jennifer will guide you through long held Yin postures designed to stimulate the Kidney and Urinary Bladder meridian pathways, gently targeting the inner legs, hips, lower back and spine. As the body softens over time, the fascia begins to release held tension, hydration is encouraged through the connective tissues, and the breath becomes a bridge back towards steadiness and calm.

The practice will also include breathwork, mindful movement, meditation and guided visualisation inspired by the Water element. Together we’ll explore themes of trust, surrender, restoration and the quiet strength that can emerge when we stop constantly pushing against ourselves.

Expect candlelight, stillness, spaciousness and deep rest.

This workshop is perfect for anyone feeling tired, overwhelmed, emotionally stretched or simply longing for a gentler way of being during the colder months.

This special event will take you far deeper than a regular Yin class. There is more time, more space, and more permission to truly drop in. You’re guided to stay longer in each posture so the body can soften layer by layer, the breath can deepen, and the mind can finally quieten enough for something more subtle to be felt.

Students will experience:

• A deeply calming and grounding Yin Yoga practice
• Exploration of the Water element through the lens of Traditional Chinese Medicine
• Practices to support the Kidney and Bladder meridians during winter
• Long held postures to release tension through the hips, spine and connective tissues
• Breathwork and nervous system regulation practices

About Jen Chen

Jen Chen is a deeply loved teacher within the Seed community, known for holding a rare and spacious quality of Yin that invites students to soften, unwind, and let go of what they’ve been carrying.

Her Yin classes have become a place people return to for the feeling of being met exactly where they are. There is a steadiness in the way Jen holds space, and a sense that nothing needs to be forced or achieved.

Yoga is not just a career for Jen, it is a lived and embodied practice that has shaped her life for many years. She discovered yoga in her mid twenties during a time of uncertainty and searching, and through breath, movement and stillness, it became a pathway back to herself. Over time, it became less about doing yoga and more about living from that place of awareness, care and presence.

Jen brings patience, clarity and devotion to the slower practices, creating an environment where the body is given time to release layer by layer and the nervous system is gently supported into rest.

For this workshop, Jen has poured particular care and intention into shaping a practice that reflects the depth of winter and the wisdom of the Water element. It is a offering created with thoughtfulness and love, designed to support students in moving beyond surface tension into a more restorative and reflective state of being.

Her teaching invites you to slow down enough that something essential can be felt again.
