Learn to Ride Your Dragon: A Yin Masterclass with Lisa Allwell

  • 1A Salisbury Avenue Blackburn, Vic, 3130 Australia (map)

Embark on a unique journey in this Yin Yoga workshop that dives into Daoist philosophy and explores the mythical Dragon Flow. In Daoism, the dragon represents wisdom, courage, and transformation—qualities we can embody through a practice that blends yin's quiet intensity with the powerful fluidity of the dragon.

As Carl Jung described, the dragon symbolises your greatest fear and the unknown forces within yourself; yet by confronting and learning to ride it, you unlock your true potential and inner power.

Led by expereinced dragon rider, Lisa Allwell, this workshop will guide you through Yin poses designed to open energy channels, calm the mind, and cultivate a grounded strength. The Dragon Flow sequence will challenge you to move with grace and awareness, honouring the rhythms of nature within yourself. It’s an invitation to reconnect with your own inner fire while learning how to harness it with mindful intention.

  • Introduction to Daoist Philosophy; Gain insights into the Daoist teachings behind the dragon archetype, yin/yang and the teachings of Lao Tzu, focusing on themes of balance, flow, and mindful power.

  • Guided Yin Yoga Practice: Experience a Yin sequence aimed at releasing tension, opening energy channels, and grounding the body.

  • Dragon Flow Sequence; Learn the unique Dragon Flow, a dynamic series of movements inspired by the strength and fluidity of the dragon, balancing yin stillness with yang energy. We’ll pay special attention to the psoas, a key hip flexor known as the "muscle of the soul." By releasing the psoas in this carefully crafted sequence, you will let go of deeply held stress, reconnecting you to a place of emotional and physical freedom.

  • Breathwork and Meditation: Engage in calming breath exercises and guided meditation to centre the mind, align with your inner rhythm, and deepen your connection to the practice. You’ll also learn a special secret ‘Dragon Breath’ to awaken your inner fire.

  • Energy Channel Activation: Experience specific Yin postures targeting the liver and kidney meridians to support energy flow and vitality, essential for the transformative dragon energy.

  • Reflection and Integration: Time for personal reflection to process and integrate the teachings, ensuring you leave feeling empowered and renewed.

How to Ride a Dragon offers an opportunity to deepen your understanding of Daoism’s influence in yoga, leaving you feeling both powerful and at peace, ready to ride life’s waves with the heart of a dragon. Perfect as we move towards the Christmas season.
